Entrepreneurship in the Haarlemmermeer, opportunities and challenges.

Haarlemmermeer has developed into an economically strong region in recent years. Thanks to its excellent logistics infrastructure, proximity to Schiphol Airport and an entrepreneurial SME, the region is attractive to entrepreneurs and investors. In recent years, this has translated into an increase in the number of mergers and acquisitions in the Haarlemmermeer and surrounding regions.
From growth to strategic choices
Haarlemmermeer has a high concentration of businesses in construction, industry, logistics and services. Many of these companies have grown successfully in recent decades, often as family businesses. It is precisely these companies that now face important choices.
Entrepreneurs face:
- increasing laws and regulations,
- structural tightness in the labor market,
- necessary investments in sustainability and digitalization,
- and whether further growth is still independently feasible.
This raises fundamental questions:
How do I keep my business future-proofed?
Can I bear these investments alone?
Is economies of scale necessary to remain competitive?
Consolidation as a strategic tool
Increasingly, this leads to strategic cooperation, a partial sale or a full acquisition, with or without the involvement of private equity. Not only because entrepreneurs “want to sell,” but also often because they want to move forward.
An example from the region is Paraat B.V. from Nieuw-Vennep, active in security services and firefighting equipment. With about 250 employees, the company was acquired by RBC Group. For RBC, this meant an expansion of the service offering; for Paraat, the acquisition provided room to further professionalize and serve customers more broadly.
We also see this trend in surrounding communities. Jeco Energies took in 2025 Applitech from Haarlem about. Jeco Energies is a provider of temporary and permanent solutions for industrial electricity infrastructure and is headquartered in Belgium. Applitech specializes in the design and production of various energy systems. With support from private equity fund NPM Capital Jeco Energies is focusing on further growth and international expansion through a buy-and-build strategy.
These examples show that consolidation is not an end point, but often the start of something new.
What does this mean for you as an entrepreneur?
For many entrepreneurs, an acquisition is not an end in itself, but a means to:
- continuity,
- take advantage of growth opportunities,
- and getting the company ready for the next phase.
Therefore, the question is not whether you should think about this, but when and under what conditions.
