The June edition of Zaanbusiness is before you with the longest day of the year already upon us. June 2025 is also a special month for us as Sophista. We are celebrating our 25th anniversary! A quarter of a century in which we actively advised and assisted entrepreneurs and family businesses in their financial strategic issues from our own entrepreneurial vision. Often these were special and unique corporate finance processes that you want to do with a specialist advisor, because basically you only sell your company once!

Over the past 25 years, we have completed hundreds of transactions and in the process gained a wealth of knowledge and experience in many different industries. We have completed projects ‘by the book’, but of course we have also completed long-term projects, experienced emotional moments and also experienced so-called ‘mergers and quarrels’. We have seen just about every aspect of corporate finance and yet it remains customized and every project is different. This is only logical, because companies are a combination of entrepreneurs, people and resources that work together to achieve goals. We have always reasoned from our clients’ objectives, but also let both sides of the table feel a little pain in trajectories. That usually yields the best deals, which ultimately also add value to jobs, prosperity and financial independence.

The corporate finance profession has also evolved over all these years. Not least due to the application of automation, but also because for entrepreneurs, borders literally do not exist and international buying and selling processes are in abundance. With our team we have grown along with all the developments and remain motivated to provide added value. The work is never boring; there are always new challenges and creative solutions needed to get the job done successfully. Sometimes things don’t work out either, and even then it is important to give honest advice.

Entrepreneurs and family businesses naturally face challenges. Even things they have no direct influence over, such as cyclical economic conditions, legislation or various crises. Despite the fact that much has happened in the past 25 years, one aspect always remains the same: Entrepreneurs see things that others do not. They are able to continuously adapt to changing market conditions, consumer behavior, trends and developments, and create a healthy business model in response. They look daringly different and think in terms of opportunities and possibilities. Uncertainty and risks are part of this; it’s about mitigating them as much as possible. That’s the best part of our job, listening to inspiring entrepreneurial stories and becoming part of the further development of the entrepreneurial journey. So we remain committed to the success of entrepreneurs and family businesses. On to the next 25 years full of inspiring and successful acquisition projects!
